Adding and Dropping Courses

A student who is registered for a term should make any schedule adjustments — such as adding, dropping, or swapping sections while registration is open. Registration deadlines can be found on the Academic Semester Calendar. Students may add courses through the end of the fifth class day for a fall or spring (16-week) term. Drops and withdrawals are two different functions. In a drop process, the status of the course changes to “unregistered” and does not appear on the student’s transcript. Students may drop courses through the 10th day of class for a fall or spring (16-week) term. When withdrawing from a course, the course will remain on the student's transcript, but with a grade of “W.” Students may withdraw from a course or courses through the withdrawal deadline — the last day of class (the day before Reading Day) in a fall or spring (16-week) term. Withdrawal deadlines for shorter terms such as “First-eight-weeks” or summer terms are posted on the Academic Semester Calendar. Fee adjustment deadlines for dropped courses and course withdrawals are noted in Fayetteville Policies and Procedures 330.0 – Tuition and Fee Adjustment Policy for Dropping Classes.

Dropping or withdrawing down to zero hours on or after the first day of the term will result in a $45 withdrawal fee.
